My elegance was normal 3 hrs ago. Went on a car ride to get the kids to nap (long story) and a bit after coming back I look at the tank and it looks like this:

Maybe he had to go to the bathroom. Torches and hammers do that too
Im used to them looking very deflated when going potty… I’ve been watching it and it’s done it 3-4 times where it swells up and then deflates back to normal and back up again in the last hour. Very interesting. Haven’t heard anyone speak of this type of elegance behavior. Crossing fingers it settles and goes back to being his happy self. Thanks for the response!

Maybe a fish got a little to close?
It’s possible that something like that happened. It’s weird because it keeps puffing up and then deflating a bit over and over. It’s near a Duncan but they’ve been in relatively close proximity for a while without incident and I always thought that in Coral wars elegance beats Duncan. Will wait and see what happens just seems pretty odd to me!

Elegance beats duncan, agreed.
My Duncan’s beat nothing.

I have Duncan’s that retract when a fish swims to close, maybe even a side swipe, or if some random food falls into.

A challenging coral but beautiful coral.

Is that bubble algae I see on the skeleton? If so I would remove the bubble algae before it has a chance to spread on the entire skeleton and the rest of your tank.

Not very much; he’s in a fairly low flow area.

This is a few minutes later. Almost like he’s going back to his usual self but so weird!

Fleshy corals often retract and expand again for no obvious reason.

Definitely waiting. Concerned about ECD since one of the hallmarks is swollen mouths and retracted polyps but it looks mostly back to normal now and hasn’t inflated again. For ECD the recommendation is 15 min fresh water dip. He’s one of my favorites. Hoping he’s just being funny.

Mine is doing something similar.
Figured out that it seems to be a feeding response. I had not seen it do it again and then I target fed reefroids for the first time in a while and 30 minutes later it was back to doing it again. Did you figure out what was going on with yours?
