Witnessing odd frantic behavior from my clown for about a week. Noticing some specks on her. Can someone identify this as anything? I added a TS Blenny a couple weeks that I caught trying to bite his own tail.. so now I’m paranoid that he brought something into my tank that is harming my clown. My female clown is the only one showing this frantic behavior. Much more frantic than what you see in this video. She eats a lot and otherwise seems normal. I only catch frantic behavior a couple times a day

I want to say I see something but extremely hard to tell under heavy blue lighting. Please retake a couple of pics under white lighting

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Odd behavior in clownfish isn't all that unusual. As long as it isn't breathing hard, is eating well and isn't showing skin lesions, it may not be an issue at all.

As mentioned, blue lights makes seeing anything on a fish very difficult, white is better. Also, a short video is helpful.

Sometimes more background information is needed and that is discussed in this link:

You're right, that isn't normal. Is the fish still feeding o.k.? It isn't a sign of any treatable disease, I'm just trying to get a sense of how serious it might me.....

Fish behaves "normal" I have caught it frantically swimming once or twice a day for a week. parameters are solid coral are all happy. She eats fine... Honestly everything seems normal except for the occasional "freak out" Yesterday I saw her dashing all over the tank like something was chasing her... even did a couple back flip type moves.

By frantic I don't mean the behavior seen in the video. It is more like a 10-20 second freak out all over the tank. Then after that everything goes back to normal. Even playfully swims down to snails and watches them and adventures through openings in the scape. When I turn on the feed mode on my pump she will come to the center of the tank and look eager to eat.

OK, well I’m not sure what’s going on, clowns do act strangely at times. This isn’t a symptom of any of the main diseases….

Thanks Jay. Any ideas about the dark spots? I will watch them to see if they multiply. They definitely weren’t there 2 weeks ago. I know the picture is bad so it’s hard to see. It’s hard to see in person as well

Black spots on clownfish are often melanin deposition from coral stings. Are there corals in the tank? Really tiny, sharply defined black spots can be turbellarian worms but they are rare on clownfish.

No corals that could sting.. My Tailspot Blenny has now died. Though he never showed strange behavior. Both clownfish ate today and seem fine. I am noticing the clown repeat the poking head out of water behavior. Doesn’t seem to be breathing fast or struggling

Yes but I’m worried he might not have ate enough. I noticed when I first got him a couple weeks ago he seemed to be itching at his tail like a dog. Since then i have been paranoid he introduced something to my tank.

I wonder if the blenny had flukes? That is one thing that will cause a fish to scratch, but won’t also show as spots on the fish’s skin. Prazipro is a safe treatment for flukes if you want to go that route.
