I think these might be Tigger pods, or Amphipods. I shined a flashlight yesterday and saw tons of them swimming around in the water, they seemed to be attracted to the light. I used a flashlight and a turkey baster to suck a few up for a closer look. I'm attaching a video below.

I set this reef up in October and haven't used any live rock from a store, just from my previous reef. The only thing I introduced to my tank were corals and pods (Reef Nutrition / Algae Barn).

You might have to download the video to see- it didn't work in the webpage for me.

I see them. mating pair of fish in your tank?

I thought about that. But I don't have any mating pair in this tank. In my 'frag tank', I have a mating pair of clowns, which did have some eggs hatch around the same time.
I guess theoretically, there could have been some rouge eggs that attached to the magnet glass cleaner and then they hatched in the DT. But I find that extremely unlikely lol.

I can’t see the video, but occasionally in my tank if I look at night with a flashlight there are swarms of little planktonic creatures that are attracted to the light, pretty sure they’re some sort of baby mysid shrimp.

I thought about that too, but can't imagine these tiny shrimps hitch hiking their way pass 3 wrasses that hunt all day long lol

They’re pretty cryptic and usually only come out to eat at night, during the day their hiding in the rocks.

They seem fairly large and developed to be Tigger pods. I could be wrong but I have not scene translucence on the back half like that in a Tigger pod that full grown

They look like fish fry to me.

Close but I am fairly certain they are some sort of shrimp fry from the way they swam. Do you have cleaner or peppermint shrimp?

I would say possibly cleaner shrimp as my guess without seeing video ha ha

Mine get fully loaded then spawn at night and get a snowstorm effect if the baby shrimps

That would be insane if that were the case. My clownfish's eggs hatched at around the same time, but in a completely different system. The eggs would have to somehow hitch a ride on a magnet cleaner that I use in both tanks. IMAGINE lol.

Nope, no shrimps. But I did suspect some type of shrimp too, based on how it swam. Would be cool if they grew up and we got to solve this mystery lol.

Ok video came through.lookd like mysis shrimp or some kind shrimp

Those are little mysid shrimp (couldn’t tell you the exact species), they’re pretty cool (in 20 years of reefing I’d never seen them in any of my tanks until my most recent/current tank, they came on a rock that had GSP on it). I see their babies swarming more than I see the adults, one had a little burrow against the glass for a while but my conch demolished it. Definitely a cool hitchhiker.

Yeah cool little dudes ,I love all the micro fauna in my tank.its like a mini war zone with everything eating everything like big amripods ( scuds alot call them eating a munnid isopod I caught a close up video of ^_^ ) and just watching them going about their business very comical

I wish I could get some videos of them in tank. The flashlight on my phone kept reflecting off the glass, and I couldn't focus in the water column. It was really neat.

Kinda makes you wonder how much cool stuff you miss not checking in on the reef in the middle of night. What's one extra cup of coffee in the morning, right? lol.

I get most enjoyment from my tank not from the fish or corals but after lights out I've got phone on video mode with light on just watching all the micro fauna ^_^
