So over the past couple days I noticed my Monti peeling I would say. Water parameters are
Nitrate 5ppm
Phosphate undetectable using api kit
Calcium 450
Alk 11.2
Mag 1450
I have had it for about a week and dip all my corals with coral rx everything else seems fine

Also have a sunset Monti that us doing fine that has been in there for 3 months

I stopped using Coral Rx because I found it to be harsh on the coral. I've actually killed some Acropora with that stuff. I now use Bayer for my dipping.

It looks like something may have dropped on it and stressed just that area. It's an odd area for death to start.

Ya it's a weird spot but nothing is above it to get dropped on it and everything in my tank is glued in place lol.. Not sure what's going on with it.. Like I said the other Monti and other sps in general are doing fine. Just thus one is weird

I dont think so the 2 fish in the tank are a blue head wrasse and a harlequin which have never bothered anything the 2 years they have been in there and don't have any pests that I know of.. I've never had this happen before lol its just a weird spot. I would assume it would be doing it from the outside in not just a certain spot on the middle like that

Check the underside on that spot, just to be sure a nudi isn't munching it. Hopefully it's just one of those unexplained occurrences and it grows back over the spot.

What would it look like?? Would it be chewed all the way through?

Just google " monti eating nudi", I encountered them on a monti cap, spots would show up, read an article to look on the underside, sure enough there they were.

I've had that happen to montis when dried salt spray fell into the tank and landed on them (was replacing the rim of the tank). Check for nudis as mentioned, but it looks like what happened to mine. They'll grow back.

The salt thing sounds right I was cleaning the rim of my tank and glass tops a couple days ago and I have alot of salt spray on my tank I'm trying to find out how to see if I have them will a magnifying glass work? I take it they would be visible if I had them?

Visible to the naked eye. They feed at night to avoid predators and hangout on the underside of the Monti during the day. hqdefault.jpg

Ok I'll pull it out today and look under it and see if I see any.. Like I said my other Monti is fine and us in a spot that I don't have any salt creep

Luckily I found them early, ended up looking under every other cap and monti and they where only on the one. Broke off a chunk where they were feeding, then dipped and redipped and used a tooth brush did this for a week, then figured it was good to go back in the main tank. Haven't seen them since.

Ya the spot doubled in size overnight but I can't see anything on it.. Top or bottom but am dipping it now. Not sure if that is one in the bowl next to it or not
