Something wrong with snails?

So I've tried searching but haven't found anything on it. For the most part all my snails look "soft and squishy". However, a couple of my snails look like they have a small brown circular thing on them. The first time I noticed this I was pulling a dead snail out. Is this a sign he is dying? Only see it on the snails I feel like are on the edge of death. I could be paranoid.

The ( trap door) is a part of the snail so when it goes in its shell completely it has protection from predators

Oooh. Makes sense. I only see it on a couple snails the others must be better at hiding it.
