somethings on my SPS

so for a few weeks now i have some kinda stringy thingy on a few of my sps..

now i've been looking at some aefw threads and edumacating myself about them just incase i have them..

here are some pics of the stringy thingy's

now from these pics you can see that there are only the stringy thingy's no bite marks or anything..

But...

in this pic you can see the string thingy's and what looks like bite marks...the evidence is very conflicting..

i need a macro lens..

I had AEFWs and never had the stringy things. I had sps react that way when they weren't getting enough flow and kind of RTNed in some spots. When I moved them to a higher flow area it healed up. As for the acro with the bite mark, I'd remove and inspect it. I was only able to see the adult worms and it was common to have bite marks with nit seeing anything that created the bite marks. Look for eggs on the corals the you suspect to have bite marks. They will be a cluster of greenish looking round eggs and they will most likely be on the base of the coral on the plug or dead part of the coral. And after inspection I'd dip it just to be sure along with anything else that looks suspect. AEFW are no fun at all, I really hope you don't have them. If you don't already dip and inspect everything before it goes into your tank and if you can quarantine.

yeah i've seen pics of aefw eggs and been on the look out for them but cant see any.. i dip everything before adding it to the tank.. the tank is a very high flow tank 2 mp40s full blast on short pulse..

Hard to say but I have had some sort of feather duster/ worm grow inside my sps before and looked similar... I have had the string looks and fans of some invert that decided to live inside the acros... The first pix almost look like detritus settled on it... Try basting them with a turkey baster and see is anything comes off...

Redbugs maybe, when i had them some of my coral looked like that.

might be the starts of a small sponge colony or outbreak (since on several things).... ive had many start looking like that on a piece of live rock but never seen them form on any of my LPS or SPS, some form next to my softies, probably coincidence.

Does it come off if you blow it with a turkey baster?

I would definitely dip and inspect everything. That last photo, near the base .......? The photo is not that clear on my phone, but looks similar to aefw bite marks.

For your sanity, I hope not.

It was the most frustrating time for me!

AEFW. ***

Took a flashlight and checked them with the lights off and found some eggs.

Sorry to hear that. But, it can be beat!

Its been about six months from when I found them. I tried a few things first that people swore worked in tank. Ended up dipping.

I know people live with them by basting every couple of days. But in my opinion, its just annoying.
