tons of awesome coral for cheap you just have to know to look around an be patient for sales my dudes don't be so salty

Its all supply and demand bro... econ 101.. someone is willing to pay for those qt those prices.. probably related to covid where more people are stuck at home so started reefing. I was talking to my LFS owner who said there is a lot more new people buying tanks and jumping into the hobby. And I noticed at least 3 new stores opening + morelocal reefers started doing back-yard side gigs selling their own frags. Since coral usually grow slow (esp the show piece ones), supply is now lagging behind

Im in NY, any new stores actually worth checking out or nah. Mostly stick to POTO, NYRA, and Advanced Marine Aquatics because i havent been fleeced from any of these places. I do happen to trust POTO the most though for being pest free and great coral health

I'm in bklyn. Like poto too (just came went there today picking up my auction winnings)

The other 2 places I go is Pops in bay ridge, and exotic reef in bensenhurst

A little confused here, yes corals are more expensive but not all corals cost that much, almost every lfs has at least a $20 frag section

Dont i know it, i try to id these corals and am just flat out saying it is a common coral with no special name and giving them a realistic price now. If i see another vendor try to sell a regular rhodactis mushroom as a micro bounce or even as bounce mushroom for like 200+ im gonna lose it
I refuse to put anything in my tank with the word bounce in it. I'd rather fill it with gasoline and toss a blunt in it. That's how stupid i think these fad names are and the pricing via positional good with it.

My nem split last night. So now I have a Gary Busey's wet dream rainbow for sale. Only $1000. Guaranteed lineage.
lineage haha, i hear that more and more. As if paperwork for my golden retriever wasn't enough, now invertebrates are getting them too? ;Vomit

For some things i wouod agree. For much of your common crap in these 3000+ chop shop live sales it is about marketing. I mean taking advantage of clueless consumers is not unique to this hobby but i hate to see suckers paying $60 for several polyps of pandora palys....just cause it is "$30 off". The things grow like weeds and has nothing to do with supply or demand but rather marketing, misleading, and uninformed consumers. Thats one example but there are countless of similar in many of these live sales.

all the while trying to convince you they're doing you a favor

Every time I hear a new name for some run-o-the-mill Zoanthid or Acropora or whatever,, I feel like I just walked into a vape shop.
For this old curmudgeon it borders on embarrassing
Ya mean like blue kush for maui wowie lol sorry couldn't resist. :)

The iPhone/Starbucks community is ruining it for everyone lol
That’s hurtful right there. I frequent my local Starbucks and prefer Apple products over droid/Windows. Can’t we just keep the judgement towards the vape shops ;Facepalm;Joyful

I'm willing to come to a settlement on this.
