Sony a6000 vs 6300

Hi guys I’m thinking about buying one camera form Sony a6009 or 6300 use there own lens. Anyone use them to shot in the reef? Can anyone post some pic and info.

Do you have existing Sony lenses? If not, consider another brand. I have a Nikon D90 when a few lenses, the lenses worth more than the camera body.
So I might stick with Nikon for the next DSLR.

If you have nothing, the Canon Rebel series are great.

If you go with Sony just for the mega-pixels, refine your search. Full frame mirror-less sensors are what's hot these days, but the lenses are not cheap.

FWIW, anything above 16 mega-pixels will be beautiful, and that can shoot HD video 1920x1080p @ 30 FPS. So that could be the base-line, work from that on up.
Because of my lenses, my D90 does much better than my Samsung S7 - even though the S7 has a higher mega-pixel.

So my beef against Sony - limited lens choices - you need adapters for everything other lens manufacturer.

I would consider ebay as a place to start. A great lens from 30 years ago is still a great lens if has no scratches. Will save you a fortune on glass and can find some very nice prime and zoom lenses

I bought my kit from a pro photographer that was looking to upgrade, and with such a budget you can get a real nice used kit.
Plus a "rugged" camera body gives you street cred.

The Sony sensor on their mirrorless is outstanding - one of the best IMO - but their lack of, and expensive to buy, lenses, turns me off. Canon by far has the largest user base, thus lots of used bodys & lenses on the market.

Trust me, having 2 or 3 lenses on top of the "stock" 50mm is a lot of fun. My fav is the Tokina 100mm wide angle, I can take a pic of a wedding group 15 people wide without having to walk away over 100 feet, and yet also take a pic of a bee on a flower, or the wedding rings, with the exact same lens.

Look at Kijiji also. Look through some 50+ ads on cameras, try to see a pattern. It's like shopping for a used car, the popular ones are usually because they are good.
Like a Mazda 3 is superior to a Ford Escort.
You should see more Canon than Nikon, and most likely zero Sony.

Yes I will buy a use camera form ebay form now if I ready likes them I will keep getting part or upg them to a newer better one the Nikon d90 I will do some research on it

I doubt you'll find a Nikon D90, it's quite old now, but newer ones exist. However, shop for the lens, then the camera body.

I love my legacy minolta glass lol. Almost all my prime lenses are from my first 35mm.

I am using Sony A6000, love it. In fact, I updated from Nikon D90, sold all my Nikon lens and reinvested into Sony line, mainly because of portability of the camera. I only have one DSLR, so I don't want a heavy one because I would have end up leaving it at home than bring it to a hiking trail, which was basically what happen for the years I owned the D90. The camera you will use often is always better than camera you don't use.

As for A6000 vs A6300, I don't quite remember the difference between, the conclusion for me was it didn't worth an upgrade. If I were to upgrade it would be the full frame line like Sony a7R III, but that's different topic by itself. This review will probably interests you https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-a6300. If price is a concern, look for used A6000 will likely give you most value/price.

If portability is not a concern (don't mind carrying another pound or two on your trip), then Canon's normal DSLR line provide the best value price ratio.

The A6000 is a great camera, but if you're planning on keeping it for a few years, using it for things in addition to tank photography and can stretch to it, I'd recommend the A6300, mostly due to the improvements in autofocus.

On the other hand, if you mostly want to shoot manual focus and macro shots, you might consider picking up one of the previous e-mount Sony mirrorless bodies on the cheap (like a nice used NEX 6 for around $300 or less), and spending your money on a nice lens or two. If you like it and want to step up later, you could then move up to one of the newer e-mount bodies and keep your investment in lenses.

I've been shooting Sony for about 6 years now, and am a big fan. I mostly shoot full-frame A7 series these days, but I've got an A6000 that still gets plenty of use.

Full frame is the way to go. Too many times I've ended up with cropped pics I didn't want cropped because my D90 isn't FF, but the Tokina lens is.

I also like mirrorless. The photographer friends I know really love their Rebels.
