This tank has a pretty sad origin story. I had a 65g that was about a year and a half old. There was a nice little community of fish in there including an adorable Mandarin that I'd trained to eat frozen. Unfortunately they caught an extremely virulent antibiotic resistant bacterial infection that wiped everyone of them out. Without the fish the rest of the tank started to decline pretty rapidly so I gathered up all the remaining frags, inverts, and my favorite rocks and stuffed them all into a spare 10g. Everything has finally started to settle in so I figured I'd start a build thread for it since it's almost a month old. I'm planning on running it invert only until the beginning of February to hopefully kill off what killed my fish. The large white dead coral chunks are ones that my husband and I found on a beach during a recent vacation.

Sad story indeed :( But best of luck moving forward ;)

I really should get some more blastos. This one I've had for almost a year now. It has survived and honestly has been the most consistently nice looking coral. I just wish it would grow a couple more heads. Fed the tank probably an hour ago and it has its little tenticals all stretched out again.

I prefer Blasto "blastomussas" myself and if i had a choice I would take a blasto over acan any day. Regular feeding definitely keeps them healthy just like acan from my experience. The more you feed them, the blumpier they become :)

Here's shot of a few blasto in 20 gallon yesterday

Yours look lovely. They have such nice color. I would really like to have more but blastos are rarely available in my area and when they do pop up generally they're 3/4 dead already. This one I got at a big frag swap from a company that wasn't from my area.

Thanks for the compliment. The ultra red definitely pops under lighting. I was fortunate to have found a few color varieties within the past year. You can see more of those I have in my thread.

You're right on hard to find. Even where I am, blasto are a hit and miss and I do have to search for them among all the acans from LFS. When I do see them, I usually grab 1. 2nd - they are also @ a higher price point unfortunately. I see anywhere from $20-$35 a head. Try online. Online would be best if and when they show up.

I got a new coral Wednesday. It's a Favia. I should have gotten a picture of it in the bag or at the store becuase it has just a crazy number of feeding tentacles. It's puffing up nicely though so perhaps it will start putting them out again soon.

I'm starting to get the itch to get fish again. I need to stay strong and finish out my fallow period.

Got a new light ordered for my 65g. I'm really looking forward to getting it set back up. My corals haven't been liking the small tank nearly as much. Plus it will be nice not to have to top off quite as often. Really looking forward to getting fish again too. Though I definitely have to plan out when I get them with being due soon too. I'm so hoping the baby comes early so I can go to the only coral expo in my area.

Nice! When is the little frag due?

March 20th is the official but my husband's side of the family tends to run large and a couple weeks early. So I'm making sure everything baby and auto feeders are set up by the end of this month.

65g is all cleaned out with fresh sand in it. Just waiting on the new rodi filter media to show up tomorrow and then I can start filling it[emoji3] I don't think most of my corals like the swings the small tank has so I'm really looking forward to getting everything switched over as fast as possible.

Got everything switched over into the 65g this past weekend. Corals were in worse shape in the little tank than what I thought. My lovely little blasto seems to be perking right up under the new lights though. It's my oldest coral. I've had it for just under a year. Super hardy, has survived everything.

If you want, you could just change the title to this thread to something more generic. If you go to Thread Tools on the top right of the thread, one of the options is Edit Title.

Thanks for the suggestion:) but I originally made this thread in the nano section and I figure 65g is a little big for a nano, lol. Plus mobile doesn't let me modify the thread.
