So after working with too many corals over the years, my fingers get really chapped cut, bleed, etc. Anyone know of any good lotion that can help prevent this? I have tried Hempz, Burts Bees, and lemony flutter by lush (works the best). So far nothing really seems to make them heal up faster.
Also, i noticed that i will get tiny blisters if i handle the tissue of chalice corals

I never had that reaction before until the last couple months. Maybe im sensitized to them?

Maybe you should just by some cheap latex gloves from the grocery to wear while handling and be done with them all :)

I have gotten numbness in my fingers from touching the giant cinnamon palys. I now wear Nitrile gloves when I handle particular animals such as palythoa.

+1 on the gloves. Also, do you rinse your hands off with fresh water after putting them in the tank? I've found that's really helped me.

yup gloves. I dont do it from fear of toxin, i just do it cause my finger get little cuts from the rocks and corals then the salt goes to work and they get all dried up. cracking and peeling. i got sick of my hand always looking like i put them in a meat grinder so i started the gloves. now i never have a problem and they are back to being baby soft sissy hands lol

Bag balm works reaaly great! But its greasy, so becrful of what you touch. Im a diabetic, and my feet get dry and crack really bad on the bottoms. I put bag balm on at night with some socks and after about 2 nights they are xompletly healed.

And wear some gloves! Didnt anyone ever tell you, no glove no love!

AS far as healing them, Neosporin has always been a quick healing lotion for me with cuts, blisters, etc. As far as your hands in the tank, i would suggest a glove as mentioned above for sure!

FWIW, when I use gloves, I double a rubber band around my wrist to keep it on, plus, it makes it water tight so my hand is dry when it comes out....Two birds :)

sally beauty supply has a huge box of black gloves that are pretty tough been using them for years

Udder Balm

Stuff works great. And gloves.

I do have a cream that my wife got fromt he DR. But it is a steroid. I wear a c-pap machine to help with my apnea. But it rubs my face raw to the point of blistering. I put a drop of that cream on my face and it is healed the next day. Never used it on my hands though.

Please be careful. Mycobacterium Marinum is easy to get while working in an aquarium with broken skin or open wounds. I wouldn't hesitate asking a Doctor and be sure to let him or her know you work with aquariums.

That's a good reminder. For some reason people seem to think that saltwater is good for wounds. It might be, except for all of the bacteria and other organisms that are in our aquarium's water.

Gloves! Also +1 for bag balm, although it is greasy, but is great for quick rehydration and protection. Sure you already know this, but don't want to assume ;) Don't put the bag balm on before you work on the tank.

got the non powdered gloves, going to get some bag balm to help heal the fingers up. Thanks guys!
