I’ve had this tang for 4 years. Yesterday it looks like something was eating it or fin rot. Could a emerald crab have done this I have a few big ones and I saw one try to grab my yellow tang a few days ago.

I’ve had emeralds do that before. I would put your Tang in a hospital tank to prevent infection. As for treatment I’ll let the more experienced folks say what to use. #reefsquad

Yeah something got him good. Fish looks otherwise healthy.

A bath in methalyne blue or Ruby Reef rally may help prevent infection.

If you see more deterioration or redness I would definitely move to QT and treat with antibiotics. Keep us posted.

I was keeping an eye on her to make sure it didn’t get any worse. Then yesterday my daughter came to me and said “daddy something is wrong with our fish” RIP

Sorry for your loss. RIP

That’s infected. I doubt an emerald crab could do this — most of these crabs and shrimp are opportunists that only feed on dead or nearly dead fish. This was either severely infected fluke damage or an infection.

I’m sorry for the loss. For the remaining fish, you may want to dose Prazipro, two doses, 5 days apart just in case it’s flukes. If your fish have been flashing, scratching, or breathing heavily I’d be even more inclined to suggest this.

Thanks for this information, I have not seen any signs on other fish but I will keep an eye on it and treat them if I see anything. Also I have not added any fish for 9 months or more.
