As a new member with 0 replies in 4 days on my pump question I hope a member can reply. I have a 55 gal reef with a sump, external overflow box & open back stand. I would like to quiet down the sump area & looking for suggestions. My stand is an open back(do I close it off?) and what soundproofing material. I am enclosing pics of my stand, any reply is appreciated.

Yes close it off. You might need some ventilation. Most noise is caused by vibrations. If you grab things you may find the cause of some noise and work on dampening that piece. You could also place your sump on a rubber mat. make sure it has holes so any water that does spill can evaporate

Thank you for the replies 1st off!. I hired a local aquarium maint company as I am to busy at work. Neglected tank for over a year. No gurgling, just the water flow. I have a cobalt mj1200 on a little fishes phosban reactor , coralife super skimmer with pump. No abnormal sounds just looking to quiet the sump area from the water flow. I work in low voltage field & we use sound dampening material for home theater rooms. Was looking for suggestions.

If you could modify your sump and bypass the “trickle” plate it may help some.
