I’ve recently noticed every time I add seaweed to the clip there is a very loud sound and which appears to be coming from the juv emperor angelfish .
Is this the “grunt “ that is generally associated with adults ?

I don't know when emperor angels grow large enough to make noise, but it is a well known thing:

They also are known to "skip breath" where just one gill plate moves when they breath, I've never seen that in other species.

When I moved a lrg juvenile Imperator from a frag tank into a 560g in the house I couldn't believe how loud he grunted.

He went from a tank where he had to forage for everything he ate to one with food be tossed in multipe times a day.

He got to the point he would grunt when we walked up to the tank if food didn't go in fast enough. And it's a loud grunt.

Even when we moved him into the 750g his grunt was a noticeable noise --- going thru 1.5" acrylic....

I’m not 100% sure if this is a grunt or just some odd sound but very noticeable it’s coming from him and when he’s picking seaweed from the veggie clip .
not sure if it’s because he’s also competing with other fish at that clip or if it’s just a sound he makes ….
Still juv colours and wasn’t expecting anything until adult pattern developed

Is the all
Of a sudden sound during feeding a sign of maturity or perhaps the juv colours will soon face ?

He’s close to being the same size as my pink tail trigger and foxface .

I've tried two pink tails and neither one could stop themselves from eating their smaller tank mates.

How have you fared with yours?

They have been the less aggressive of triggers .
He’s only ate 2 sand sifting gobies minutes after acclimating . As soon as they were added to the dt he grabbed them at the surface .
He’s never bothered any snails , crabs and besides that the only small fish I have is a wrasse and clownfish .
No one messes with the clownfish

Of all triggers they are my favourite and said to be the most reef safe of all

nigers are nice but very aggressive towards anything new . Especially smaller

Why the Tupperware container with sand ?

Hard to get a picture of .. every time it’s either the emperor or orange shoulder jumping in front of the camera

My blue throat is extremely reef and community safe.

First PT ate 3 flasher Wrasses, a yellow coris and flipped and tail swatted coral colonies too death.

Second ate a trio of firesish, line spot wrasse and a mandarin.

I've given up on them. Great personality. Not willing to feed it any smaller fish i put in my tank
