Hey

I have some sour apple palys that I have had for awhile, the growth on them is great but I am not seeing extremely good color. So my question is what kind of lighting under a 250 watt metal halide would they prefer. I can place them in total shade through right under the light.

Thanks,

Matt

I have not recently but they were at the bottom of the tank under 400's and they did not even open for awhile, stuck them under the 250 and they slowly started opening up. I may try it again.

Mine seem to look best under 12-14K lighting. I have them under 20K right now, but the green in them doesn't pop as well as it could.

here's what mine look like under 250w SE 20k Radiums... :)

they took a while to acclimate but once they did, they took off... good luck with yours.. :)

I was hoping you would respond. I have seen that picture and want them to look like that! Where in the tank do you have them placed?

Thanks for the responses!

Thanks Matt... :)

I've moved them around my tank and they have always held their colors.... my tank is only 18" deep and the 250w SE MH pendant is about 8"-10" from the water surface... currently, the colony is located on the sand bed.. :)

Is it directly under the light? or is it partially shaded. Mine is located on the sand bed under a 250 SE partially shaded and the green is a very dull green.

Matt
IMHO, Sour Apples love the lights.. as long as their acclimated slowly... mine are directly under the MH... :)

See mine just don't have that bright green popping like yours do. You on a HQI ballast? Mine are on the sand as well (24" deep tank).
