Like many of us, I buy 0.1N HCL or sulfuric acid to use as titrant in my alkalinity monitors. I use it in both my Alkatronic (diluted 1:4) and in my GHL KH Director (straight 0.1N). I also use it in my titration rig to verify accuracy of testing. This is the stuff I've bought for years:

But it's out of stock at Amazon and has been for a while, in all sizes.

Amazon sells this:

but I don't trust it, since my titration standard indicates it's not 0.1N, but substantially stronger (the mfg makes no rep about tolerance to 0.1N)

I've tried a couple other places online, but they wont ship 0.1N HCL or Sulfuric acid to a residence, and the local labs I've checked (SF Bay Area) will only sell to a business.

Anyone have a lead on where to buy 0.1N (or 1.0N) HCL or sufuric acid?

EDIT: Looks like Amazon links aren't showing up. if not, first is the LabChem 0.1N HCL 4l (I"ve also used their sulfuric), the second (still available) is "Innovating Science" I think.

Cole Palmer always has stuff like that. They’re pricy though, but do certify accuracy.

Hach or Hanna

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunatly none of them paid off. Hanna does not offer a a certificate of analysis or promise any grade or accuracy for their reagent. Besides, it's not much cheaper than buying the manufacturer reagent. Cole Parmer and several others wont ship to a residential address (and some that are local wont allow a non-business to pick up).

It's easy to get 37% HCL (go figure), but I doubt the percentage is accurate enough to use as a reagent (after appropriate dilution). I'll approximate the dilution to get 0.1N and run it through a titration using my 8.0dKH standard until I find the right acid/RODI ratio to get a reasonably accurate 0.1N acid.

Hach sells an acid standard through Amazon that says it can deliver to me in 2 days.

Hach 1481253 Hydrochloric Acid Standard Solution, 0.10 N, 1 L

Thanks Randy. Amazon doesn't show that to me. I can find it in a google search using your exact description, but the Amazon link fails. Probably some geographic restriction -- I'm in California.

I'm in California and ran into the same problem now that Amazon doesn't sell it any longer. I also could not get any of the lab supply companies to ship to my home or office. Fortunately, Coralvue will and at a similar shipped cost. Just bought this last week.

Thanks, forgot about that option
