I need to treat my fish for crypt so I am going to go the CP route. I know it is best to get a prescription and get it from a pharmacy, but let's just say it's EXTREMELY difficult for me. I've spent 3 days, and the only vet who makes house calls for fish wants $400!

I've already ordered 100g from Fishman Chemical. I've heard good and bad things. They say the sheet on this is at 98.8% pure.

Does anyone have another way? Has anyone used them recently (not 5 years ago) and had good/bad experiences?

I've read that thread many times. All it says is that you need a prescription and it's hard to get. Then it goes into figuring out if someone was still in business or not.
Sorry about that. I have a regular vet for my cat and I let him read this link and he just wrote the script for me. No charge.

I called up a local vet, asked about it and her told me he can get a 500 mg cp tablet for 20$. Even offered to were the prescription the same day a

I got it on fleabay . 20g for about 23$. Yes it may or may not be 99.9% but even at 90% (extreme case) you can just add a little more and still get the effect. If they put baking soda or crack into it instead of cp, well I guess I'm screwed..

So you haven't used it yet?

In the process of using it . I can't say whether it's effective as I've used it for 3 days only so far. The fish that it is being used one lived through a bout of velvet w no meds for three days. It's a flame angel. Currently in a tank with a juvi emperor. It's 5 gallons Of water in a 10 gallon tank. Approx 1/16 tsp, and some prazi . Fish appears healthy. No spots, much better breathing. I like cp more than copper due to ability to use prime in the water as a dechlorinator and deamoniator (yes I said it). W copper, prime can reduce it to cu ions which are much more toxic to the angels. Also I have problems tested copper levels due to difficulty in discerning the color chart.

Link?

It sure sounds it after reading the instructions. I wonder what concentration it is.

The dosage is 30mg/l.

Is it CP or Quinnine Sulfate?

I have the bottle here and it says Chloriquine Phosphate. It doesn't really matter what the concentration is. For example if it was 50%, the instructions would have you dose twice as much then if it was 100%. We have to assume that spectrum has done their own internal testing to determine proper dose to kill the parasite.

It still has the same problem other products have.... it's a question of purity. If you don't know the purity of the CP in a product like that, then how do you know you are dosing the correct amount?

+1 No experience using New Life Spectrum - Ick Shield. However, a sales rep admitted to me that it is CP sourced direct from China with no testing done after the fact. That was all I needed to hear; it is no better or worse than CP bought from the "ebay guy".

@jasonrusso Even pharmacies that source from overseas do their own testing before reselling. Why? Because their products are meant for human consumption, and testing for purity is a lot cheaper than settling a lawsuit, paying FDA fines, etc. Obviously, I cannot guarantee this happens 100% of the time but it is the norm for the industry.
