Randy plz tell me the aprox dosing iodide amount for 185 gallon tank.

I personally do not think it useful for most reefers to dose supplemental iodine, but when dosing, I recommend iodide (sodium iodide, potassium iodide, etc.).
Since it fairly rapidly depletes (taken up by algae), I'd recommend dosing up to the natural seawater level of about 0.06 ppm once or possibly twice a week (or the same amount spread over a week).

Im curious your reason for not dosing iodine? Ill guess it gets added in food to keep it from being limited? What if you dont do water changes?

I'm just going on the fact that I dosed it for many years, then stopped and saw no difference, and I know quite a few experienced reefers who had the same experience. Was that because foods bring in enough? That's certainly possible.
There is also no demonstrated need for iodine in the scientific literature for most of the organisms we keep (with a few exceptions described in my article above). The big user is algae, and it is likely to be used mostly to make the algae unpalatable to herbivores, which is not typically useful or even desirable for us.![]()
That's interesting. Id rather get 10 tangs and feed them nori than dose iodine. The nori should keep iodine from becoming limited no? Maybe even maganese.

It will certainly provide iodine and trace elements to the tank.![]()
Sweet. How is it providing it? Is it the same mechanism of Phosphorus in fish when they eat it? Maybe some gets dissolved in the water even before consumption.
Do you think feeding nori could raise iodine levels too much?
Sorry for all the questions
Basically how is it entering the water theough food
