Can a pectinia kill a clam? I'm thinking mine might have stung my clam.

My Space invader has very long sweepers at night. I position the Space Invader so the upstream current takes the sweepers away from other corals. I would think the clam would close though if it were being stung, then open back up by day when the sweepers are not out.

When i had clams many corals would touch it's mantle. It never seemed to be effected.

My nem moved by my clam and it's unhappy.

My RB and Sebae have also swept tentacles across my clams. No effect. But they did encroach into clams space just tentacle brush for few seconds or so. Clams may not like their space, current or light source being compromised. I even had mojito living on clams edge near mantle. It did not care.

Mine has long tentacles all the time. It's about a one inch frag with three inch tentacles!!

I have two pectina. When i first got them tentacles out often. As time went on they seem to sense my feeding schedule and only send them out at feeding time. They rarely send them out at night when they seem to sense a new coral purchase is near them. It is easy to move the small pectinia away if you feel it will harm things. Pectinia have nasty sweepers. Longer then many other chalices.

It wouldn't surprise me at all, for an SI to zap a clam's soft tissue.

Mine has sweepers up to 7" long and has zapped plenty of things, including a rock nem.

I now refer to it as 'Invades Space'! :)

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I was able to find an Space Invader Oxypora that looks very similar to the Space Invader Pectinia, except the Oxypora don't have the dreaded 6-7" sweeper tentacles.

Oxypora is member of the chalice family as well as pectinia if i am remembering correctly. Pectina comes in plating and spiney types. The space invader pectinia is of the spiney types. Both types of pectinia have very long sweepers. Other members of chalice group can also have sweepers but i have never seen them as long a frequent as in the pectinia family. Oxypora will not be spiney, it does resemble the pectinia. That maybe why they added the chalice family name of oxypora. To distinguish it as not a pectinia.

Yeah my 1" frag has 4-5" tentacles during the day, night, really whenever it wants. It's a pain because its a beautiful piece but I can't place it by anything.

I know someone who cut the sweepers off their Space Invader  and I don't think they grew back.
