I have a cutout in my basement that is just over 5 feet long. So I've been thinking about putting a bigger aquarium there. Something like a Red Sea 650. It would be a very snug fit. Is side or back access crucial?

If you get a lid that has a 4-6" radius (or more) of solid material around the edge of the tank you can minimize or even eliminate splashes that would run down the side of the tank. And as long as you can reach in with a hand or arm - you should be able to scrape the glass.Ahh good points...I didn't even think about that. Back to the drawing board....
