If you have been in this hobby for some time you probably have enough equipment to open up a small store. I have been Reef keeping for about 16 months now. I was cleaning my basement and I grouped all my aquarium equipment to one corner and a idea came to my head. Why not start a small reef tank, so I did.

The light was bought from points accumulated through Amazon rewards. Corals were propagate from my main display.

I have a spare 10 gallon tank chilling in my basement that I've been itching to turn into a tank for my daughter.

This was the main reason I slapped this one together. I built it with my son and daughter. Let them mix the salt and rinse out the sand which I had about 15 pounds spare. They loved it. Hopefully next gen reefers.
I say go for it.

What a great idea...I could do at least two more, but it would likely cost me half of everything I own!

So you are saying you could start 2 spare part reef tanks and it would only consume 1/2 of what you own? What are you waiting for? Get those 4 tanks up and running!

Well...I guess that is one way to interpret that. ;)

So I guess nobody else on r2r has set up a small reef tank with the spare parts they have gathered over the years. That's a lot of wasted potential.:D

Those are cool. I think i saw one pop a puffer fish once. It was so sad so see. Puffers seem so sweet with their big puppy eyes.

Be sure to post it. Once done.

My spare parts are probably going to be a QT tank = 20 gallon tall, HOB filter, heater.

The two 55 gallon tanks I got for free are going to become bait tanks for locally collected smelt/minnows for icefishing. I have a good pile of bioballs..planning on some type of trickle filter.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my 175 watt MH provided the ballast still works.

I have an extra 10 and 29 gallon tank. I've been thinking about setting up a frag tank or maybe a species specific tank, like a mantis shrimp. Not sure what I want to do...lol...The only thing I don't have is an extra light for coral but that's not a big deal, I'll just buy one...lol...maybe the 10 for coral, the 29 for a mantis or something. Or maybe the 29 for coral and the 10 for a sump for it...One day I'll decide...
