Getting back into the field after nearly 40 years.

One of the reasons i dropped out was an increasingly critical understanding of the practices of collection and its impact on the reef.

One of the rationales I have used in recommitting are the changes i have seen in the interim.

Will do all I can to stock with captive sourced livestock wherever possible, but have not been able to do so with every new addition.

Based on the above and considering where we are in the world today haved looked in the mirror and committed to match all livestock purchase totals with an annual donation to a relevant charitable organization.

Question to the forum is.. apart from Nature Conservancy (my current target) are there more reef specific action oriented organizations out there that are recommended?

Thanks for your help and stay safe.

I have heard Reef Relief is a good organization.

Not as bad as dynamiting the reef up to make cement or bottom dragging nets to catch fish for food. Yeah collection techniques are often quite bad but if we stop buying ornamental fish, they aren't going to stop trying to make money from the reef and let it thrive, they'll turn to much more destructive industrial uses. Conservation is far more complicated than a binary choice in this case. We're better off with people like you who care about the reefs in the hobby who can drive more ethical collection practices than out of it where you won't.

Consider supporting rising tide or give to institutions engaged in research about coral spawning or bleaching events.
