Spears Check Valve

Why do you think you need a check valve? 99+% of the time they are not necessary and become a liability. Proper design of the return with an air gap when power goes off is normally very easy to accomplish and the best insurance you can have as far as backflow or flood protection.

I dont think there is a need per se, just a want. It makes me rest better. It also allows me to remove 85% my return plumbing very easily in case something needed to be changed

Check valves fail so they should never give you peace of mind. A simple union allows you to remove plumbing without any headloss or potential for failure. Avoid it if at all possible. There are many more threads in this same forum on check valves, you may want to check out a few before making your mind up.

What is the failure rate?
Everything else on our tank is prone to failure. I can tell you, I personally have zero piece of mind with anything on my tank. My seal could break, the pipe could develop a leak, my return pump fail, my light fall into my tank, and various other things. As I sit here, I wonder what will happen and when it will happen.
I mainly was curious to see if anyone uses them and their opinions to them.

If you do use a check valve use one that can be disassembled for cleaning. I use a George Fischer Wye and happy with it, most people use a flapper style which can be prone to failure due to design. I have a union at both ends of my Wye so it can be completely removed and cleaned
