Hello again so I have a 29g tank that’s a 30” and now that I think of it I kinda want a species tank. I was thinking about a bta with a bunch of clowns and maybe a single angel but I don’t know how many clowns I can keep in a tank this size. I am open to ideas

It's really going to depend on your filtration and how big they end up going to I'd probably say three or four fish with your BTA anemone my own personal belief or opinion someone else might say different

I’m using a hydor slim skim

I’d do a pair of clowns at first then add a couple of other fish later on. Adding too many fish at once might cause nutrient problems

True

I would just do a pair. See if you can get them to spawn, it would be super fun. Other ideas for species tank could be mantis shrimp tank, angler fish, seahorse tank. Lots of options

I don't think that a tank with two fish species can be considered a species tank.

You could try a colony of various fish species. The following are good options as long as you provide enough cover for each fish to find cover in:
Apogon parvulus (red spot cardinalfish)
clown gobies (Gobiodon sp.)
Trimma gobies
Eviota gobies
Fuscus, Erectus, or Reidi seahorses
Barnacle blennies

Lots of posts about harems! Filtering through them, most of them seem to suggest keeping multiple clowns from the same clutch. A clown only tank with a bunch of nems is also a future build for me! ;Joyful

My questions how many clowns could I keep

Im thinking about a tank with 3 princess anthias, bta, 2 clowns, dragonet

I'd say 2 clowns. I don't think you could do a harem in a tank that size. Anyways for a species tank how about an invert with some real personality!

Marine giant hermit crab (note it will get big and have to get a bigger tank years down the road)

I was thinking putting a bunch of anemone shrimp in

What kind of lighting do you have? If your lighting can support, why not go all out with a hadden's carpet or sebae? But either way a clownfish harem with anemone is definitely a cool idea.
My own fantasy species tank though would be a peacock mantis tank.
