Just purchased a Spectra Pure RODI 90 gpd system.. There is nothing in the instruction relating to down time of the system.. My needs are very small concerning water replacement so it would only be active maybe once a week.. Do member blow out the left over water in the filters... I would think the filters could become stagnant ..

Thanks in advance

I have a brs RODI system and the only thing I "blow out" or flush is the RO cartridge itself of sediment not water. Also if you make top-off water was well as your water change water you should be totally 100% fine.

Do not blow out the water. Once a week is just fine for running RO/DI.

I do make top-off water but I have about 10 1 gal. plastic milk jugs that I store them in.. so I'm only using the system on a limited basis.. I suppose just letting the system run for 15 minutes before collecting the output would be ok.

How much water do you produce and how often? Larger batches are better than small batches because off TDS creep. Install a DI bypass line and flush that for a minute before every time you make water and this will extent the DI life span.

As far as flushing the leftover water in the filters I don't thinks it is necessary. The by pass will give you a real benefit.

Use the system at least every 10-14 days and store it full of water in a dark climate controlled place when not in use.
Install a DI bypass valve between the RO and the DI and send the first couple ounces of water to the drain each time you start it to extend your DI life. Your handheld TDS meter will tell you exactly how much to bypass before making DI.
Try to make 5-10 gallons each time you use it so the membrane cleanses itself each time.

Thanks everyone... seems my best option is to just run a couple gallon once a week even if its just down the drain..

Put a drinking water kit on it. Pull drinking water from the output of the RO membrane before it goes to the first DI cartridge. You'll never have to buy bottled drinking water again. That alone will keep your system healthy.

Also do you have the auto flush feature from Spectrapure. That will help a lot.
