So I ordered new filters from Spectrapure for my RODI system. One of those is a new RO membrane and matching flow restrictor. Now I get the installation of the membrane, that is easy.

I am looking at the instructions for the flow restrictor and an confused. Is there anyone here (AZ Maybe?) who can take the spectrapure directions and explain them for someone who has never used this type of flow restrictor? What do I need to know to trim the length of the restrictor?

I am assuming I take the waste line off the membrane housing and insert the restrictor in the pipe then reconnect. It's the testing and trimming part I am confused on...

Yes, remove and toss your old restrictor, install the new capillary tube in the waste line and make a couple gallons of RO water (do not install any new DI resin or cartridge until the new sediment, carbon and membrane are flushed and broken in) to break the new membrane in and get any air out of the system.

Next using a metric measuring cup, measure the waste for exactly one minute and record the amount in m/L. Use the chart they provided and trim the retsrictor to the total length they suggest for that m/L amount then reinstall the restrictor in the line. Measure to waste again as well as the treated and it should be very close to 4:1 waste ratio, if not measure and adjust again.

I guess it wasn't that night, but I did get the results of the testing. I ended up with a 3.6:1 ratio of waste to product so I had to trim the restricter slightly. It was really close though right out of the bag.
