Setting up new rodi. It says catch water from waste line and product line for 1 minute. Waste is 500 milliliters and product is 300 milliliters. Divide that and got 1.66. That is the resultant of concentrate to product ratio. Is that less than 4/1 or greater than 6/1?

I’m confused….your waste to product is extremely high. What unit do you have (i.e. gallons per day)? And by the way, the numbers you’ve reported are 1.66/1….which is way less than 4/1….doesn’t make sense unless you’ve got something new I’m not aware of.

90 gallon per day spectrapure. It says to take the waste and prod water in milliliters for 1 monute. Waste is 500 and product is 300 milliliters. 500 divide by 300 is 1.66

The Spectrapure 90gpd is a single membrane unit. I’ve never heard of a single membrane unit putting out 1 gallon of good water for every 1.66 gallons of waste. That’s just too good. If this is real, I’ve got to get me one of these units. I put out approximate 3+ gallons of waste for every 1 gallon of good water.

Figured it out. Had to cut the flow restrictor down to 1 inch. Getting 3.5 to 1 ratio now. Going to call spectrapure tommorrow,

It can be higher than 80 psi with no problems. Manufacturers and vendors will set a number like that for liability reasons. I run my Spectrapure system at 100 psi and never had a leak yet in over 4 years at that pressure. Membranes actually perform better at higher pressures.

The 1 good to 1.66 waste is before the flow restrictor has been trimmed and the membrane would not last at that ratio if it were left that way.

Spectrapure does make UHE ultra low waste systems that run at about 1:0.66 but they are very different than a normal system in that they use a microprocessor controller to flush the system with stored DI water to keep the membrane operational. I have owned one for 4 over 4 years now and its still putting out about 120 GPD at 99.4% rejection rate and running at less than 1:1 waste ratio with 650+ TDS tap water. Not cheap but they work extremely well.
