Spectrum vs color

Affirmative!. But it varies from species to species. LPS and zoas are more prevalent in my experience. Wild sticks will display some color morphing depending on the depth it was harvested, tank raised is less likely affected. Just my 2 cents.

I've noticed a color shift when I changed out my 6500k and 7500k diodes for 14000k and 20000k diodes in my montipora caps and digatas. For the better.

Maybe I'm trying to read too much into your question. There is 'apparent color' which is due to our visual perception of an item under various lighting sources (the skin flattering warm light in some makeup mirrors comes to mind) and there is 'true color' (usually determined under a standardized light source.) I think what you're asking is if lighting spectral quality can impact coloration. The short answer is yes (T5 lamps - or any source matching their spectral signatures) are thought to induce more vivid red chromoprotein in some stony corals. We observed 'greening' of a 'Purple Monster' Acropora when it was exposed to light from a metal halide lamp that used no 'splash guard' in the lighting fixture (we think UV did it.) The new lab is almost done and experiments designed to provide definitive answers to these types of question are on the horizon.

Short of Mr Dana's secret lab, trial and error is my goal. Been running 20k for 6 months so will switch to 12-14k and see what it does to pigment production. Light intensity is fixed at 45% but need to get par, more variables will make my head explode. As long as i dont change anything then can gather at the end

Looking forward to hearing your results! I intend to look at color production under different LEDs as well as impacts of pH and so on.
