I've always been curious about DC pumps, so I decided to replace my return pump which is Tunze silence 1073.040 with a Speed wave DC pump. Both are rated at 790gph max. I just got done installing the speed wave and I am extremely pleased. I thought the tunze was silence, but this speed wave is dead silent!! At max power this thing seems to be putting out a lot more flow than my tunze, I had to turn it down 2 stops. It comes with a 6 speed controller, which is awesome, I see this will be very handy during feeding. Also, the amp reading on my apex display dropped by .8. Conclusion, this speed wave pump is more silent, has better flow, uses less power, controllable speed, and $50 cheaper than what I paid for my Tunze!? Wish I bought this sooner!

So, I definitely recommend these pumps for anyone thinking about picking up one.

I just ordered 3 Jebao DC12000 and 2 Jebao DC6000. They are very, VERY similar to the speed wave (I think). I can't wait to get them.

I agree the speed wave is very silent. The feed button is very silent. I just recently had an issue with my speed wave return pump. So I contacted the manufacturer and they have an awesome staff working for them. I highly recommend.

I also have a speedwave (Gen 1 10k model). I agree with the silence as mine I cannot hear at all. And the pushing power is indeed amazing. My amps went from 3.4 to 1.1 with the speed while my flow has increased amazingly.

The 4k, 6k and 12k are the newer versions of the pumps. The have even more potential flow, but the main thing is they have a newer controller. The controllers with these pumps are "supposed" to be controllable via controllers such as Apex, DA, etc. This is the main and most drastic difference from the older ones like mine (3k, 5k and 10k).

I just wasn't sure when they were going to be in stock, so I went ahead with the first generation. Even without the new controller, I still love mine!

The Jebao are actually a newer design compared to the Speedwave. Speedwave is similar to GEN1 Waveline, Jebao is GEN2 Waveline.

I recently picked up a speedwave dc 790 for a new build. I have never used anything other than an eheim but am familiar with the Tunze silence and I am pleased to hear these are quieter. I can't wait to set it up and if it is as quiet as you guys say it is, I will pick up another to replace my Eheim

bhazard, have you used either the DC6000 (I'm getting 2) or the DC12000 (I'm getting 4)? I'd appreciate your thoughts on them.

I'm running a speedwave 5000 on my new setup and could not be happier. It is completely silent. Lots of flow and selectable. I have always been a ehiem user since they were the quietest and energy efficient. As long as the speedwave can continue to run without failure. One thing about the ehiem is reliability.

Any body starting to have problems with their DC pump? Mine have failed to start a couple times and shut down when I try to run it at max.

I got mine 4 years ago ran great and was super quiet now it won't start up without help. Am I at the life expectancy of this pump and I can't find them anywhere did this company go under?

I bought 2 of the Waveline pumps about 4 years ago as well. All are dead now, and in the trash. I’ve also been running the Jebao/Jecod DC pumps since then. They all seem to have a 2-3 year life span.
What I think fails is the internal circuitry in the pump itself, no way to fix em.

So I guess the short answer is IMHO - yes, you have hit the life span of these pumps.

Ok I kinda figured thanks for the reply. I may try a sicce pump this time I didn't really use the different speeds other than the feed mode so I don't think ill get a controllable one this time.

All mine died, it was either the pump itself or the controller. I’ve used 4 within 2yrs. Now I’m using eco tech M1, 10months in, smooth operation this far. I chose to go with ecotech because of the CS. I don’t think you can go wrong with Sicce, I know they make great pumps.
