I saw this the other day and thought it was pretty cool so I took some pics (early evening with my light cycle). I didn't move the attacked acan initially because I liked where it was and wanted to see how it would fare. The next morning it was covered in mesenterial filaments, likely its own spewed in response to the attack. I blew-off as best I could.

This is the acan now... I don't know if anything I would have done would have made much difference.

These had been close for probably almost a year. I thought they would be fine and then one day... out comes the web. Oddly, another larger rainbow acan attacked some zoas a couple of days later. I think that acan got a nasty mouthful as it released the web several hours later, and the zoas appear unscathed.

Acan Enchinata's are very aggressive. From experience if they are well fed, they aren't quite as bad but generally speaking they need plenty of space.

This just happened to me - see my post titles "Agression between acans?"

I thought all Acans played nice with each other. The Enchinata was next to the Acan it decimated for many months before doing exactly as your picture shows.

I also thought they played well together, though a quick search would have told me otherwise. I'm wondering if the "brain coral" type (Enchinata) are the worst, while those with more pronounced, fleshy polyps (like mine that got attacked) aren't as bad. It was odd that my other rainbow acan that is probably 4' away did the exact same thing two days later when I had seen neither do this in the 3 years I've had them.
