Spines on Frag?

I honestly have no idea if this is the right section but just picked up this frag and there’s like white teeth or spines sticking at the base? Is this part of the corals skeleton or? Genuinely new to saltwater. So sorry if this is an obvious answer and if posted in wrong section.
