Usually you see tentacles with new headsThose look like new heads IMO
I agree and they are not red/spiraled to make me think vermatid or some other type of wormThose look like new heads to me, but the pic is pretty blue, so it’s hard to see any detail. Branching euphyllia can split from a polyp or sprout from the base tissue, as shown in the pic. If you look at the one on the right, it’s the same color as the tissue surrounding it. It’s usually white from lack of light/self shading. My hammers grow in this fashion. Also, spionid worms have two small tentacles, like two fingers waving back and forth. They are harmless filter feeders, but can make corals look like crap with funky growth.
Yea I'm going to stick with my original answer. Definitely looks like new heads to me.White light picture. Even found an Asterina starfish I think. And something purple maybe a sponge?
The purple I wouldnt worry about at all its most likely coraline algea or some sort of sponge. And in general most forms of asterina are no problem whatsoever but because it's at the base of your coral I'd remove it ASAP. It's most likely the coral eating variety if it's on the base of your hammer.Any idea on the purple spongey thing?
what’s the consensus on asterina stars. Sorry, I’m a noob. Some people say they aren’t a big deal.
