I noticed a while ago a spiro worm growing from the skeleton from my prized fat scoly.

it scrunched its skin really weird.

so first I dug / cut out as much as I could from underneath on the skeleton (thing is slippery)

I put some superglue on it and left it for a two weeks.

i then removed it again and scrapped the area and removed the glue.

my hope was it would regrow the skin, and it appears that it has but I’m not sure.

Any suggestions on what to do? Will it always be wired looking now??

it won’t be the end if it does. It’s super healthy and happy. Always got feeders out and prolly 6
Inch across. Has grown a good bit and feeds regularly even after noticing worm.

Skirt was up so I clicked a pic.
What are this squiggly things!!!! The corner is where worm was. Has been at least a month since removing glue. I think it’s dead!?

Where the apex of the damaged skin is, at one time existed the worm, growing out of the skeleton right there.

Had my fingers crossed someone has ran into this. He just kind of holds that side right all the time.

I guess I’ll be the Guinea pig and update this in several months to see if the skin does grow back. I’m tempted to try and scrap the area again to get anymore remnants, but I know it’s healthy so I’m going to let it just be weird.

Spirorbid are extremely common and pretty harmless regardless. The only way to prevent them is by having a seriously strict coral QT. Never scrape the hard tissue on a coral. The coral should heal assuming it doesn't get an infection.

Nice!!

It’s been weeks since I killed the worm and no sign of decline.

The worm was growing out from dnderneath and it was way more scrunchy looking.

Morning and last night feeding pics I’ll give it a month or two.

Couple more pics. I’m really torn on what I should do.

I’m thinking wait for it to grow a bit more then take it out, and super glue the end to kill worm??

how long does that take?

open to any and all suggestions

Put him on a cutting board today and super glued the worm again.

still interested in anyone else’s experience.
How long till the worm dies?

I would like to remove it and see if the skin grows back once worm is dead.

Still hoping I can get some experience here.
This is an updated pic of the little fella.
It now appears there is a suspicious looking bright yellow sponge coming out from under the skeleton.

Spirobid still appears / seems to be superglued and not coming out.

still not sure if I should remove it again and try to scrap the worm in hopes the skin will recover the area??

or is it forever changed due to the way the skin healed!?

@WWC any opinions? Got this little bugger from you guys many moons ago. Figure you have seen it all.

Spirobid grew from the other end and stuck out the top side of the scolly skin.

so… took poor fella out, upside down on a dinner plate, and glued the other end down.

scolly seems more “relaxed” now.

just wanting to keep record, was on 3/13…. Still hoping I can scrap the worm skeleton off after it’s dead and have it return to being round.

anyone!? Anything?

Sorry man I wish I had some knowledge for you Iv read about them being dug/cut/chiseled killed and removed. Again I have no experience in it my self… I’ll see if I can’t find the article and post it here for you give me a few hours

So I haven’t been able to find the article im sorry, but from what I see in the picture doesn’t look like Spirobid to me. I’m sorry I wasn’t more help. If I manage to stumble across it in the next few days I’ll post it for you. I feel like it was another worm pest though they used bone cutters to snip at it till it was killed then dipped the coral but again im just running off blurred memory… sorry im not the best help hopefully this communication gets you a bump and a more knowledgeable reffer pops in

Likely not to recover and spirobids filter feed on algae and would not eat tissue- Likely coincidence or if sone glue got onto tissue

Yea! I believe you are correct. I will change my title. It’s for sure

Spirorbid - tiny curled shell like spots, easy to remove with scraping, but usually come in high numbers

Vermetid - long hard tube with curled base. Also easy to remove, just pluck the base off.

Spionid - two little tentacles with the rest of the worm hidden, coral borer, difficult to impossible to remove without harming coral.

So far scolly is happier. He is no longer holding his “flap” up so high, and is more open.

going to give this one month then scrap the glue, and as much of the worm / shell I can get.

Hey Jason, How's that scolly looking? Did the pest come back?
