Good morning everyone! Are there any telltale signs that an anemone is about to split in 2, and what have you witnessed?

Sometimes you can see their mouth elongating in preparation of making 2 mouths but not always. My son had a rose nem that split 3xs when he accidently overdosed with kalkwasser and the the splits happened very quickly.

Thanks my green tip condi has been mailing it's mouth around and sometimes it looked as if it was melting but it was fine and it would go back to normal then other times it would pretty much pucker it's lips and look like it's turning the lips inside out then it would again go back to normal. I feed the fish frozen brine shrimp and I feed my anemones and feather duster kent micro-vert every 3rd day

What do you feed your nem(s) and how (target or dripping in the water and have it floating around)

I used to grow anemones and would cut them in 2-4 depending on size. Sometimes they would split only if they are stressed or very happy. I gave it up as I wanted to move to sps only tank. It is fun to watch clowns dart from each one in the tank. At one point I had 24 rose, 36 green and 15 Sherman's

I would never cut anemones I would only cut frags of other corals but never an anemone I would just let it split on its own

Only thing that scares me to cut is acans or other similar type lps. Anemones are very easy to cut and heal in like 2 days, look normal after 5 days

I could never bring myself to cut my sebae nem either even though it was huge, the size of a dinner plate. Mine never split in the 5 years I had it. Because of its size I sadly had to sell it when I downsized my aquarium. I target fed mine cocktail shrimp, whole krill, clam chunks and crab chunks. Not often though, once every couple of weeks.

There are only 2 hosting anemones that naturally split -- E. quadricolor and H. magnifica.

I have yet to see any proof of any other species being manually divided and living for any extended period of time.

Given how fickle Mags are, would never suggest trying to manually dividing one of those.
