is it ok to split the drain line to feed the sump and the refug i have a mag 7 in the sump (and curratly a powerhead802 pumping water into the fuge and a maxi 12 pushing the water from the fuge back to the sump) i was thinking i could split the drain line to drain to both and use oone or bothe of my mower heads to pump water back to my sump

Garth:

I'm not sure I completely get the full picture of your setup.

To answer your question though you can split the train line and have x% go to the sump and x% go to the fuge.

Ideally you would want to use gravity to get the water from your fuge to your sump, using an overflow etc.

I might be reading to much into it, but if you have a pump pumping water into the fuge and another pumping water out you can run into serious issues if one of the pumps were to fail.

If you could draw a quick and dirty pic in paint or something and post it that would help alot.

I split the return from the overflow between my fuge and skimmer areas with no problems. I have a 1" pipe going into the skimmer area (middle of my sump) and just before it gets there I put in a 3/4" ball valve/T connector (goes from 1" to 3/4") that dumps into the fuge. I use the 3/4" ball valve to control how much water flows into the fuge instead of going straight to the skimmer.

The flow leaves the fuge via gravity over the baffle into the skimmer chamber afterwards, but I wanted to get un-skimmed water into the fuge at a slower velocity than straight from the skimmer so I did it that way.

sorry if i misexplained i want to put a ball vale or a t or something to split the drain line but yes currently yes i have poer heads running the water back and forth i know dangerouse but all i could do at the time lol (to much beam and not enough equipment or mony lol) but i couldnt get my paint sketch of my ideas here so let me know how and i will i remebered to save it. i decided to dump a heater in the tank and keep the mj-mods running and i got my leaky overflow box off to completly and permantly repair it so if i were going to change the plumbing now would be a great time.

Here's a quick picture of what I was talking about. The water just drains out of the fuge slowly via gravity. I also put another ball valve on the small pipe going into the fuge to control the flow a little more.
