I've looked through some posts and have seen instances where the coral might split. But the location I'm wondering if it was smacked by a random fish and injured.
Thoughts...?

I did recently add a hyperactive tang puppy but i have never seen his spikes out at all. I thought maybe he had just run it over? He runs over everyone and everything in the tank. But i suppose he could have spiked it. What are the odds it will heal...?

It’ll be fine, toadstools are made of steel. Whatever happens, I doubt it’ll die or anything the polyps still look nice and healthy I wouldn’t worry

Many times to frag leathers one will run string through it with a needle and tie it down to a rock or plug, then the string is removed once attached. This looks like that type of injury.

Interesting! But no I've had it since July, didn't see any injuries prior to a few days ago. It had closed for maybe a month, almost took it out thinking it was dead. So possibly i wasn't able to see it before?

I'd keep an eye on it if it worsens you can try an iodine dip to aid in recovery.

Looks very much like shedding/split
