I have several sponges in my tank but none like this one

Seams to be smothering my chalice, also notice it sent out a structure towards the rockwork, should I be concerned?

Another that only tends to grow around corals

Any advise is appreciated

hi rid the one on the chalice ,pink seems ok

remove from tank scrub off swish in cup of tank water

Dip in hydrogen peroxide
Or expose to air... larger angels should also eat it

Will try all that.

These common? Never had a sponge be this aggressive. All the other sponges in my tank grow on overhangs or in caves, never seen one growing right under the lights. Even the reddish one is pretty much almost always shaded by the zoa colony.

I agree with taking it out, scrub with a toothbrush, swish around in a vessel of tank water. Keep in mind, sponges dont do well when exposed to air, so you'll get the majority with the brush and whatever remains will likely die off. The pink ones good though. I've got one in my tank that's big and growing

I question the reality of getting a nice angel. Most are not nice when it comes to corals

I have the same white sponge in 2 of my tanks. Seems to be very aggressive as far as growth and encroaching are concerned. Haven't had it smother any coral yet, but I do believe it is possible with this variety.

I agree with fishguy242. Scrub it off and swish in some tank water to get rid of it.
