It’s a betta fish, it can live in a muddy puddle on the street and be good. Change the water when it gets a bit cloudy and your good.

Get any kind bacteria for fresh water fast and leave em alone after dosing the bacteria!

They’re tough but that doesn’t make it right to treat them like that and this one is apparently having all kinds of trouble so slacking is the last thing that needs to happen and with all the inbreeding and staying in a cup ect they’re not exactly the dry season surviving wild type.....that’s like comparing pugs to wolves...

Okay again I can’t thank you enough for taking time out to help me!! You took some stress off my back for sure!!!
Just did a final test (I know I might be crazy but I’m really attached to him!) ammonia and nitrate levels are at 0 on both does this mean tank is fully cycled? Fish is happy and playing with moss balls and not coming up for air as much! What should I do moving forward?

I’m trying to give my fish “Norman” a nice life!! He was so happy the other day and he was just stating to recognize me and getting in routine with a feeding spot (sooo cute) and the next day it breaks my heart to see him in the corner not moving! I had to do something! I’m grateful and beyond happy to have found this website! My fish defiantly would have been dead by now if it wasn’t for all of these people!

If you like Bettas, there IS a Marine Betta... Just saying.
(not as easy to keep, that is for sure)

No problem at all, keep us posted on how your little guy is doing and happy reefing err betaing, ehh you stick around here long enough you might end up with a reef tank :p
Update!!!
I did a gallon water change this morning with regular drinking water ammonia and nitrate levels are at zero I got to the store this morning and picked up a pH tester levels were at a 7.6! I got proper ph 7.0 balancer, as well at quick start, just added ph balance solution, Norman is swimming around and looking for food, no signs of stress or him getting sick at the moment!

Replying back Norman has been fine but this morning he woke up with gimp gill, when he tried to swim his gill cover sticks out on both sides, water is good, 0 ammonia or nitrates, ph is good tank is filled with 100% drinking water, I believe he might have injured himself, temperature is good too! He swims sometimes but then when he does his gill cover flares open and when he stays still in water it goes back down, and when he glides in water is doesn’t flare, he is fighting it looks like he’s frustrated, and is staying at top for most part, is there anything I can do to help or you think is causing this ?

It's hard to tell but it looks like he was flaring his gills at the red light, like being territorial towards it. If so, kinda funny but nothing to worry.

I’ve been feeding him freeze dried shrimp brine and he’s been going crazy over it and this morning he wouldn’t even come near me to eat! Usually he sees me and goes crazy!!

Usually they will flare at their reflection or something they don't like, they are quiet aggressive little fish, as long as he doesn't do it all day long it's fine and nothing to worry about. If the problem persists play around with the lighting or position of the tank to minimize reflections.
