Today while cleaning I decided to reposition some live rock. On one piece of rock I found a patch of growth on the underside of the rock. This rock was on top of another piece of rock and not on the tank bottom. The sponge like growth is white and came apart easily. Was this good bad any ideas?

That is actually sponge. I dont know the exact name of it but it won't harm any of your coral or fish. Angelfish love it and its their natural source of food in the wild. Sponges are sometimes also associated with high phosphate so I would check that as well.

I just checked the phosphate level in the tank, and it continues to be next to zero. It is under the first reading on the scale. I am just glad to hear that its relatively harmless.

Phospahte reading should be under .005. If your kit doesn't read that low, I'd get another kit. But the sponge is harmless.

Yep, nothing to worry about. If your readings ever do climb above .005 like reefing madness said use a little gfo and it will nip it in the butt. Happy reefing :)
