Sponges are hard to clean and easily accumulate calcium precipitation, causing them to get hard. Socks are easier to maintain. I don't know which filters better.
My sump uses a coarse filter material, or any material or combination of materials I want.
Much better than socks. Much easier to clean and much cheaper.
