This is a question that I've wondered for a while and now that I'm getting closer to getting a sponge, I'm now going to ask.

It is my understanding (and I may be wrong), that as sponges grow, they adapt the feed with the water flow. So if a sponge grew to feed from left to right with the current, and when I place it in my tank, I place it from right to left, will it adapt to the new flow or would it just perish? If not, how do you place it in the tank so that it grows healthily. Thanks in advance

I really don't think placement, as it pertains to the specific flow, matters as much as meeting there feeding requirements. If you get one, be prepared to target feed several times a week. They will adapt so long as they are fed. Just don't let it come into contact with air.

Thanks, I'm fully prepared to feed twice daily (as I'm already doing). I'm hoping that when I eventually put one in the tank, it will be able to sort itself out for eating

It's the same as coral unfortunately. You have to move them and try stuff.
You do have to find a spot that can use at all first.
But you're correct , info it can find what it needs to get by first, It will grow to take more advantage of the flow that it's in.
