Sponge taking over zoas

This blue gray sponge so far seems isolated to the frag plug with these zoas on it. The zoas just started reproducing and I much prefer them to this yucky looking sponge. I'm wondering if I just pull the plug and expose it to air if it will kill this sponge as well?

These are tunicates also known as sea squirts and will have to be peeled or lifted off
Best outside of tank in a container of tank water.
These are good filter feeders but can becc by invasive

Thanks, I kind of thought about that after I looked at my own photos. Oddly the zoas open up and don't seem to mind being surrounded by them.
