Sponge ????? What is it

Any thoughts as to what this could be covered on one of my zoa gardens...."did" have a large patch of shinny bubble looking bumps but was firm to the touch....I have removed it... thought of pulling the whole rock and let it get exposed to the air

No...its pretty firm and when I removed some of the larger peices I smashed it and it would pop it's really weird
