Any of you keep sponges? (Tree Sponges, Ball sponges, Gorgonians)

Cannot expose to air, Cannot put under strong light (If non-photosynthetic), When they die must remove immediately. Ive heard many things about them until i bought a ton for myself I really started to pay attention. lol

Anything else I need to know?

Heres a pic of some sponges a couple days old and During transfer i exposed them to air for about 5 seconds. is it game over?

Cannot put under strong light
Only to reduce algae growth.

If you grind up a sponge and toss it in water its cells regenerate and grow new sponges. I lost 3 sponges because my tank was too new. :(they are now growing back in different places in my tank.:)
one of them did nuke the tank, my bad, bad placement.

One thing sponges feed on is bacteria, so with along with the phyto's consider a small array of bacterial suppliment feeding . DrT mb7 Reef Bugs etc.

How did it nuke your tank? also, what early signs should i look for if its dying?

I bought a rock with great sponges on a sunday, put it in the sump in an area of not enough flow and likely light. On thursday it had died off.
so rapid tissue loss on the sponge , or your corals start freaking out and dying

Okay, its only been the 2nd day. My orange tree sponge is showing a white powdery tint to it.

oy. Could be from the air yes, but also acclimation to ph alk salinity etc. Thats reefing!

I have a really nice pink sponge living on a piece of rock that has been cooking for 6 months. Still doing great. I want to move this rock & sponge to the 75. However I'm sure the parameters between the cooking barrel & tank are very different. Particularly temp. How should HPIM8547.JPG I acclimate this sponge to the new tank? the color is much better than the pic shows.
