ok i have an area of my DT that is starting to get a little over run by a sponge and its a little unsightly, ive heard it can be cut down and removed i dont want to remove it totally since it is a good form of filtration,if i cut it will it harm my tank by throwing toxins into the wate, it is impossible to remove the rock.Imput would be appreciated thx RJ

Description needed. If it is the common "stringy" sponge that is in almost every reef tank (white in dim lighting, black as it is exposed to strong lights over time) you should be fine to remove it. I have just grabbed clumps with my fingers and yanked them off in the past. I even through them in my fuge at times and let them grow out there.

My friend had nuked his tank by removing to much at the same time.
