What do you think of this spot? To me it looks a little big too be ich, but I'm unsure. This is the only spot noticeable. I'll see if I can get a better photo.

Thanks!

It doesn't look too big to be ich, but a little background on this fish may help determine that. How long have you had it? Was he QT'd? What method was used to qt? How long has the spot been there? Any other symptoms to go with it?

No qt (I know, I know)

Fish came from LA divers den

He was just introduced, so I can’t say how long the spot has been there

Nothing else out of the ordinary, he seemed to acclimate well

Somewhat, it’s tough to tell.

I’ve been more lenient with qt for fish that come from a good source like DD. Unfortunately by lenient I mean not doing it.

I had a foxface for years, she was the biggest personality in my tank! I love them! I had a similar situation when I was acclimating her as well as one of my yellow tangs. I’m not sure if it’s the absolute best solution but I did a freshwater dip with them and the white speck disappeared.

The Foxface is incredibly resistant to ich and some external parasites. They have a thick slime coat that has been said to have properties that repel ich to a certain point. That said, the fact that fish have been introduced to the tank without QT means that ich is likely present in the tank. You may want to take the "wait and watch" approach here. Observe carefully to see how long it takes for the white spot to go away. 3-5 days and it's likely ich. If it goes away within hours, then it's likely just debris stuck to the slime coat. Watch for behavioral symptoms from all the fish such as: flashing/scratching on things in the tank, heavy breathing, excessive hiding, swimming into the flow of powerheads or returns.

Agree with @melypr1985, on every point. I do think that looks like ich, but again, 3-5 day clock will tell the story.

Well the spot is gone (~24 hrs later). Since the fish is new, I can’t say how long the spot has been there. I wouldn’t think divers den would ship a fish with visible signs of ich, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’ll keep on eye on everything.

Sand occasionally sticks to my foxface, it always scares me. It also always falls off in an hour or two. They must be sticky lol

Hope yours is just sand
