spot a few days ago on my new half black mimic tang. i did a water change yesterday to the qt tank and today he is doesnt seem to be eating and his mouth is opened some. I have copper in the tank and am doesing metroplex and focus.

Could be a bacterial infection. Add Furan2 + Kanaplex to your dosing with metro. We call it the trifecta and it works pretty good as it is a very wide spectrum antibiotic treatment.

Can be:
Bacterial
Stress
Vitamin Deficiency

I had similar a LONG time ago. Gave the fish a freshwater bath and then changed diet which I feed til today.
If freshwater bath changes nothing, I used Melafix and lowered tank lights to more blue.
Feed at minimum:
Spirulina brine shrimp
Nori basted with garlic
small mysis
Plankton
LRS herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen

Add liquid vitamins such as selcon 1-2X per week. If all else fails, I agree with Big G recommendation above
