I have two Spotbreast Angels, M/F. the Male has become swollen over the last couple days. I've had them for just at three weeks. theyve been great since added, very big eats, swimming all over.
last couple days though, the male has not been the same. then today i notice him with a swollen belly area. its not like a balloon but its like he hasnt pooped in awhile or maybe a swimblatter?
either way he pretty much stays in his cave and only comes out sometimes. he swims fine, but will swim with his head pointed down a bit... it kind of seemed like a thing with the female one for awhile, but now it seems connected to his belly and behavior.

I'll try to get a picture of him, but right now he doesnt want to show his fat belly off...

Based on the fins and what little I can see, and the behavioral symptoms (hiding from light, change of behavior, hiding more in general) I believe at least one of your issues is velvet.

Do you quarantine your fish?

You’ll need to remove all and treat in copper for 30 days (or 14 if you transfer to a second fully sterile tank that shares nothing with the first) ASAP.

As velvet worsens the parasites damage the gills such that it cannot oxygenate itself well and it leads to strange swimming behavior before the end.

oh great.... yeah dont qt... its weird, no fish has been added for 3 weeks, (them) looking at him, at least in his cave, he does have white spots it seems... how can you tell its Velvet not Ich? if i pull, i have to pull all right? man, getting a royal gamma and starry blenny is going to be fun...

and all I have is a 20 long for them...
but would that affect give him this swollen underside? its very noticeable.

and for what its worth, nothing else is showing signs... but i know that is common for velvet. the 3 weeks in is what confuses me.

Three weeks in fits the timeline of velvet perfectly if the fish was kept in subtheraputic copper at lfs or wholesale

The difference between ich and velvet for treatment is minimal.

You just need to ramp up copper faster if it's velvet.

reading the thread on Velvet, it seems Chloroquine phosphate is a better option than Copper... but I cannot find exactly what that is, or where to buy it.

CP can be better for some fish.

Problem is you have to get a RX from a vet. And then purchase from diamondback online.

Using eBay CP is not recommend due to the true purity being unknown. There isn't a way to test the level without sending samples to a lab. So you need reliable product to work with.

Copper is widely available and very easy to monitor with a Hanna checker.

oh snap. yeah, and im worried since ive read angels are not the best with copper.

thanks for the help! hope i can get this set up in the morning and start dipping wednesday. hope its not too late...
