I have been having a rough time trying to get spotcinctus clowns to pair up. I bought a pair around 3/4" or so figuring they were juveniles ended up killing each other in a short amount of time. Next I tried the largest 1 1/2"spoticinctus with the smallest I could find 3/4" the largest beat the smallest up they seemed to get along for awhile and then woke up this morning and the smallest one was on the sand bed not looking good. I'm wondering what I should try next? I have kept pairs in the past of different breeds perculas and oscellaris and not had the issues im having now.

Funny thing i just realized I thought the smaller (male) clown was dieing but looks like he was sleeping on the sand bed! Crazy clown fish... see what happens. Female is in my rbta probably keep him out for awhile longer.

Spots are a different fish when it comes to pairing them. Most I have seen are down right mean! Very few are laid back.

Something that has worked though is making a space where only the small male can go and hide. This has worked twice and failed once although usually with older females (4”+) and small males (1”).

Oh well that’s good!

They are brutal from what I have seen but love their looks and personality. I'm hoping the female let's him in eventually. My Rbta split again last night they are close to each other maybe she will let him into the other nem. Unlike the first pair I got that thrashed each other the female has been less harsh seems to bump him away not really biting and he is definitely being submissive.
