Since we recommend a single Prime over an 18" x 18" area as a solid option for a mixed tank with some SPS, LPS and Softies, given your coral selection I think you could start with about 50% less intensity on all channels then what we recommend near the end of the video. For example, I would probably start at the settings below and make adjustments from there if necessary.

UV- 60%
Violet -58%
Royal Blue-39%,
Blues -40%,
Green-2%,
Deep Red - 2%
Cool Whites -9%.

Thanks for the reply man! The BRS videos have been an amazing source of information and really the only reason I felt comfortable branching into corals!

The AI Prime HD are great lights at an affordable price. They can grow just about anything. Here are a couple top down shots of my IM30L taken with and IPhone using the Aquaiclip filter. Don’t mind the closed up LA Lakers and micro zoas.

Man, I’m not sure if it’s the increased UV or what but my corals, shrooms especially, are loving the change so far and it’s only in the morning ramp up phase!

Is anyone running the AI Prime HD under a canopy (open back) . Which if any of the standard mounts will work best? Any concerns with overheating?

I just got a Prime HD and using the suggested settings, the tank looks great. Any suggestions on what the acclimation percentage should be? I have it at 25% for 30 days. I also have the light mounted 16" above water level and will lower it over time to the suggested height.

If I wish to lower the intensity 50%, is it just simple math such as below and would the spectrum stays the same?

UV 119 x 0.5 = 60
Violet 116 x 0.5 = 58
Royal 79 x 0.5 = 40
Blue 80 x 0.5 = 40
Green 4 x 0.5 = 2
Deep Red 4 x 0.5 =2
Cool White 19 x 0.5 = 10

The reduction in percentages may not end up being perfectly linear as far as spectrum is concerned, but I would venture to guess it's close enough that I would be comfortable using it.

hi all

I have a 24*24*24 cube and i had only one AI prime HD, decided to get a second one just because of the spread of 18" recommendation.
how far apart should i place the lights and what height? also i'm using the BRS settings would they work ok on my tank? i have a mix tank

Hi Randy,

I currently have a Red Sea Reefer 250 running with 3 AI Primes. I'm currently running the BRS AB+ Custom Schedule. Running them for 12 hours; 2 Hours ramp up, 3 hours running the BRS AB+ with Whites at 40%, 2 hours with Whites at 30%, 2 hours with Whites at 20%, and 2 hours ramp down and 1/2 transitioning the whites down. Now I have mainly LPS and softies with a couple stonies towards the top of the tank. I also have a large Green Gigantea Carpet anemone on the right side of the tank. I have looked at all different forums and web browsers looking to see if anyone has any suggestions for the amount of light that the anemone requires. Do you know if I need to boost the lights power higher or will my current schedule be fine for the anemone? I watch all the BRStv Episodes. They are very informative and great all around.

Below is a picture of my reef.

Please advise.

Please note to lower the intensity on these lights, and keep the AB+ spectrum, you can’t just cut the numbers across the board by a certain percent because there is not an equal amount of leds for each color. Uv, V, R and G only have one bulb. While there are 3 each for Rb, B and Cw. You have to drag two fingers down on the light schedule to bring the intensity down (iPad app I don’t know about others). For example I brought the intensity down roughly 30% for lps tank from 29 watts to 20 watts and the new ab+ was, Uv 105, V 104, Rb 49, B 50, R 2, G 2, Cw 12. Original brs Ab+ is; Uv 119, V 116, Rb 79, B 80, R 4, G 4, Cw 19. Notice how much higher the Uv and V stayed compared to the other leds that had 3 bulbs. This helps to preserve the original spectrum.

Interesting, i have the origonal prime without the HD funtion so i just reduced each channel by the same percent. Now i see that is probably wrong. My only issue is i cant actually input the true spectrum because my sliders stop at 100% so i cant start with the correct baseline in order to reduce it. Could you do me a favor and lower the intensity until UV is at 100% and post the numbers? That way i can put those values in and run it on my prime!

No problem, the numbers came out at 100 Uv, 100 V, 40 Rb, 40 B, 2 R, 2 G, and 9 Cw. On the HD that is 17 watt intensity, I don’t know what your growing and weather or not it will provide enough Par for you. That is roughly a 40% reduction in intensity from the original ab+ program.
