I run old-school hybrid MH/T5 lights on my system and love the intensity and shimmer I get from them, along with excellent coral growth rates. I generally prefer the more natural look of my reef as opposed to the super blue look of some LED tanks, BUT there is no denying the beauty of corals under that kind of lighting.

So, I was thinking about adding a few LED spotlights to shine blue light on a few areas where I want the coral colors to pop more. Has anyone done this before and any suggestions?

I currently run 2x 250w 16k MH bulbs with 2x blue plus and 2x actinic T5 bulbs.

Can't give you the answer desired but had something to add. Keep in mind that most of the photos you see from either sellers or just generally online are doctored. All of them are using special cameras and filters to get the pictures to pop the way they do.

I've seen in various build threads and hobbyist YouTube videos where they used Kessil A160s point targeted on specific colonies.

kessil 160s or 360s wiill work well for this purpose, you can adjust the color spectrum as you wish for the desired visual effect.

I ran halides for many years and now run 100% led.
The halides over power the leds when run together. I would run them when the halides are off.
Maybe 5-6 hours of halides then the leds for the color you want.

I was running my photon 50's at 50% white. I now run the white and red at 30% now. The rest are at 75%. Way more color to the corals and the white still keeps a more natural look overall.
Keep in mind each 50 has 20 white so I have 40 white on my system.
